It is both satisfying and appropriate that my final article of 2017, published in the final days of this year, is the conclusion of the Tour de Cryx. I did it! There were a lot of times along the way that I wasn’t sure, because life got in the way, but at the end, I was able to clear enough time to make sure that I was able to make it all the way to the end. So, here we are, the final Caster, the final list, and the final article, of the Tour de Cryx: Skarre 1.
While I was busy writing all the articles for Asphyxious 3, I was also playing games, and the Community decided that I was going to have to save Skarre 1 until the end of the tour, so I was stuck playing Asphyxious 2, the original Lich Lord, first. What was I possibly going to do with this paupers caster?
I am burning through casters, here at the end of the tour! Its a sprint to the finish, and that means that I’ll be writing more of these, I do believe, than one a week. I wrote the first two on Gaspy 3 last week: The overview and the midpoint and now I’m putting fingers to keyboard to get the final one out. I went through a bit of a metamorphosis through my time playing, and I got two games in with my final incarnation.
Normally, I do my midpoint review after having two games with the caster, trying to take stock of the way that they play and make some changes to how they operate. This time, though, I was at a tournament, and got in three games in a row, so we’ll do the midpoint there.
Unfortunately, the holidays and my recent illness have left me playing more than I’ve been writing, which means that I’m writing this post way after real time, which is a disappointment. I really enjoy exploring the casters in writing before giving them a shot on the table. I’ll try to be as true to thoughts as I can as I make my way through how I played Asphyxious 3.
At the tail end of MKII, I played a lot of Goreshade 3 and Deneghra 3. I got very good at them, even taking them to the Last Masters at Lock and Load. To play them again, back to back, and get a feel for how they worked again, was a real nostalgic trip. To realize that both of them, while changed a bit, are still strong, was a really good feeling. Lets talk Goreshade 3!
It has been some time since I introduced my plans to play a few games with Goreshade 3 and I’ve only managed to get a pair of games in with him. I’m still looking strong with a bit more free time coming up here (vacation, etc). Let’s get right to it!
Goreshade 3 is one of the casters I played a ton at the end of MKII along with Denny 3. Its really cool to have him voted in right after completing Denny 3, and it brings back a ton of memories of playing him. He had changed a bunch in the new edition, though, and he could prove to be not as enjoyable as he once was. Continue reading
It has finally come to pass! I’ve gotten in 5 games with Deneghra 3. I found her to be just as enjoyable in her current incarnation as I did in her first. Though I was never able to top 14 focus in a given turn, like had in MKII, I did get a lot of focus, a lot of the time. Lets see how it all played out.
Two games in, and I’ve played two versions of the list, neither of which were the ones I originally started out with the intent to play. I made changes to make them feel more right. Still not sure though.
