I did much, much more than I thought I did at Lock and Load.

I figured one post and it would be done. The truth was completely different. While I made it through Day -1, 0, 1 and into day 2, I still had a ton more games to play yet.

So, After the first 11 games , I took a brief nap (some 5 hours) and got back in line for the spelldraft tournament. It was going to be the last one of MKII, and likely the last one I would ever play in. Who did I bring? Of course, Deneghra 3, Who doesn’t want to spam 3 cost nukes all day?

This was my spell list:

I don’t get to go to many tournaments. Its not a problem for me, just a statement. When I go, though, I often fret for a while on what I am going take, what I can do to cover match-ups, and how I am going to avoid being curb stomped. Saturday I made it to my first tournament in a rather long time (December?), and my first one back with Cryx. I had a great time, played three insane games, and walked away with my head held high!

This one is long, bear with me! Three awesome games!

Broken, Beaten, Scared

It has been a long, long time since I’ve had my ass beat as badly as it has been beat while trying to worry through Deneghra 3. Taking my deserved beatings, though, doesn’t feel good, and It’s illuminating two aspects that I don’t find that I am very experienced with: List Pairing and List innovation. I don’t think that either of these are skills I cannot try and bring to wield as a deadly weapon, but it may yet take a number of years.

Darkest Before the Dawn

Sometimes, the hardest part of this game is hitting the reset button. Every once in a while, seeing that you have put work into making a list function, put thought and time into setting up what you think is a formidable and powerful set of synergies, and played a number of games that were, good, but not good enough, you have bow your head and admit defeat. At that point, You’ve reached the hardest part of a list. The daylight is in view. Seize it. I have recently hit that point with Deneghra 3

Ruin is upon us.

With the new year, I’ve put aside my Skorne, and for the next 18 or so months, I’ll be playing Cryx, the army that brought me into Warmachine and the one that I love the most. Its a faction that feel like how Warmachine was imagined to be played, which is a start contrast to the types of games I used to play. Coming from the long, brutal slogs that are Skorne, it is going to be a refreshing change of pace to play with a heavy assassination hand.

Exhaustion

As I left the tournament Saturday, I was a little agitated. My last game has not gone well, though I’d won, and the entire day was spent tirelessly working towards what I felt was a pedestrian 2-2 showing. Both victories seemed hollow, and both defeats seemed felt self-inflicted. This isn’t to say that the person who won shouldn’t have – they did, but I could defenitly see where I made it much harder on myself than I should have. Above all I felt my main caster throughout the tournament, Zaal 2, was working uphill. I’d spent the last two months playing him, and though it was fun, I’m tired of using a caster that feels like he has one hand tied behind his back.

This has been an interesting week for warmachine, hasn’t it! I normally do my Warmachine /Hordes posts on Tuesday and something else on Thursday, But I am glad I waited. Tuesday had the cover of the next Warmachine book – Reckoning – come out, and today had complete spoilers of two more entries from that book, joining Dynamo and Moros.

I’ll just go in chronological order here, simply so I hope I remember whats happening.

First, Reckoning.
